Kumukahi Ke Aloha

EIN# 93-2070470

A Maui-based, 100% Indigenous, and majority woman-led charity advancing Hawaiian Soulfulness™ one person at a time.

Hawaiian Soulfulness™

The cultural foundation of our mission—a discipline of Aloha that guides how we serve, heal, and uplift others.

It means to LAWA: Live Authentically With Aloha.

Rooted in the Hawaiian word “lawa”—meaning enough, sufficient, and balanced—this philosophy teaches us to give with compassion, act with humility, and live with harmony. It is the practice of showing up fully, offering care that is intentional, culturally grounded, and just enough to meet the moment with grace.

Through Hawaiian Soulfulness, we nourish communities one person at a time—not with excess or charity, but with purpose, love, and integrity.

MISSION

Mitigate human suffering through Hawaiian Soulfulness™ to advance education, food sovereignty, housing, sustainable development, and disaster resiliency.

Advancing Native Birthing

We are honored to announce that through a grant from the First Nations Development Institute, Kumukahi Ke Aloha—together with our partner, Pacific Birth Collective (PBC)—has advanced the Hawaiian Soulfulness Education Program in support of Native Hawaiian midwifery and maternal wellness.

This vital funding empowered PBC to implement culturally grounded activities rooted in aloha, mālama, and the traditions of our kūpuna. With it, we:

  • Supported mentorship for Native Hawaiian midwifery (pale keiki) apprentices

  • Hosted culturally affirming support groups for expectant and new mothers

  • Elevated Indigenous voices through community education and engagement

Guided by Hawaiian wellness values and ancestral knowledge, this work uplifts the sacred journey of birth and strengthens the resilience of our lāhui.

Mahalo to First Nations Development Institute and all who walk with us in restoring pono birth practices.

Farm Expansion!

Kula, Maui — He Lei O Kumukahi (HLOK), a Native Hawaiian-led initiative and subsidiary of Kumukahi Ke Aloha 501(c)(3), is proud to announce the upcoming groundbreaking of its farm expansion in the Waiohuli Homestead on the slopes of Haleakalā.

This project marks a pivotal moment in the journey toward restoring food sovereignty, cultural healing, and economic empowerment for Native Hawaiian families. The expansion, situated on half an acre of ʻāina, will grow into a vibrant healing garden—rooted in ancestral wisdom and regenerative agriculture—that nourishes body, mind, and spirit.

He Lei O Kumukahi is honored to have been selected as a 2025 recipient of the Maui Economic Opportunity (MEO) Micro-Agriculture Grant, funded through the County of Maui. This $25,000 award will support critical infrastructure, soil regeneration, and culturally relevant plantings that reflect the farm's commitment to healing the land and people of Hawaiʻi.

"As we plant and grow, we connect deeper not just to ʻāina but also to one another," said Malia Davidson, President of Kumukahi Ke Aloha. “This garden is more than a farm—it's a space of learning, resilience, and aloha.”

The HLOK expansion is part of Kumukahi Ke Aloha’s broader Local Food Sovereignty Initiative, which works to increase community access to fresh, culturally significant food while uplifting Native Hawaiian agricultural knowledge and values.

Stay tuned for updates on volunteer days, planting events, and future harvest celebrations.
